About the event
Join us for an insightful talk on the history of Mowbray Park, led by our lead facilitator Sarah Robson. Discover fascinating details about the park, such as its former allotments, and enjoy a complimentary hot drink. After the talk, we'll have an open discussion about your ideas and hopes for the future of Mowbray Park. This workshop offers a blend of history, community dialogue, and a chance to contribute to this project development.
We are pleased to announce that Kevin Johnson, Visiting Tutor in Landscape Architecture at Newcastle University and former Principal Landscape Architect at Sunderland City Council, will be joining us as a special guest speaker.
With a distinguished career spanning decades, Kevin has extensive experience in the design of public parks, open spaces, and play areas. His work has taken him across the UK and internationally, but much of his professional legacy is rooted in Sunderland. During his tenure at Sunderland City Council, Kevin led the design teams responsible for several key projects, including the restoration of Mowbray Park from 1996 to 2000, the development of Herrington Country Park, and the more recent creation of Keel Square and Minster Gardens.
Now semi-retired, Kevin continues to contribute to the field through his academic role and as a consultant, sharing his vast knowledge and insights with future generations of landscape architects.
Join us as we explore Sunderland’s rich history of green space design with one of its most influential figures.
